Cloudy Bay’s culinary series celebrates the art of entertaining. Inspired by our love of great food and good wine, we bring together creatives from all walks of life and all around the world, to enjoy the simple pleasure of a long lunch in a beautiful setting.
Our latest get together, inspired by New Zealand and Korea, took place at Oude in Seongsu-dong, Seoul.
A light dappled long lunch, hosted by our Cloudy Bay creative friends, Chef Kim Jeongho and Yoo Min-Joo, was served against the bustling backdrop of the city. Guests were transported to the foothills of the Wairau Valley in New Zealand’s iconic Marlborough region, with divine pairings of Cloudy Bay’s finest wines and local dishes with a distinctly Korean culinary twist.
Yoo invited the Korean landscape inside under a dreamy canopy of greenery, sprigs, and budding blooms. Her eye-catching floral centrepiece, accented with a thoughtfully curated playlist, vintage plates and glasses, creating a distinctive and immersive tablescape.
Chef Kim prepared modern classics with a Korean spin, using local ingredients which perfectly complemented Cloudy Bay’s wine. Guests enjoyed an appetiser of trout from Pyeongchang paired with the Cloudy Bay Pelorus, followed by hanchi calamari with citrusy yuzu granita and glass of Sauvignon Blanc.
Next came lobster with sautéed Brussels in a buttery kimchi-based sauce – a match made in heaven with the chardonnay. And finally, a glass of Pinot Noir, with blackberry tones which was beautifully accentuated by Korean beef tenderloin and oyster mushrooms.
The five-course meal was topped off with lemon cream pastry and vanilla ice cream.
backdrop of Korean landscape and culture. Guests were left feeling inspired, full, and happy. Proof that wherever you are in the world, nothing beats the art of entertaining; a gathering of great quality company paired with exceptional wine and fabulous food.
