A little ingenuity goes a long way
Thanks to our abundance of local Kiwi talent and ingenuity, our vineyards now use innovative machinery to make our processes more efficient. One of our favourites is Murray’s Marvellous Machine, an autonomous machine that has redefined how we care for the land! It traverses the vines, keeping our grapes healthy with world-class inbuilt features. Check it out below.
Sheep, sheep everywhere!
The first thing you notice if you drive through rural New Zealand is the abundance of sheep. There are around 4.5 sheep per person across the country. That’s a lot of sheep-mouths to feed! Luckily for them (and us), our beautiful vineyard grows delicious wine and even-more-delicious grass. Instead of using traditional machines to keep our grass trimmed, we let our sheep roam on our vineyards, snacking on the grass. It’s a mutually beneficial relationship that’s helped us do our part for the environment.
Any weather is shorts weather
Kiwi winters can be rather nippy (cold), but our hardworking vineyard workers don’t seem to feel the cold. If you’ve spent any time in New Zealand, you may have noticed that we don’t have much time for pants, or ‘longs’ as we call them. We’re much more comfortable in shorts, even when the weather is cold. Our vineyard is no exception, with almost all our workers choosing shorts no matter the weather.

Sleep, pie, work, repeat
Pies are a Kiwi delicacy that our team can't live without. Imagine biting into a deliciously meaty, gravy-filled pastry before a morning on the vineyard. There’s nothing quite like it. That’s why our team often starts their day with the ‘vineyard workers’ dream’: a warm pie and a cup of coffee, the most Kiwi fuel for grape harvesting and wine making.
There we have it, four ‘yarns’ from our vineyards for you to share at your next dinner party (plus a little Kiwi lingo to impress your guests). Grab a glass of Cloudy Bay and get chatting.
