We’re excited to announce the release of our 40th Vintage of Cloudy Bay Sauvignon Blanc in 2024, marked by a special commemorative label. This label will feature on every bottle of our 2024 Sauvignon Blanc.
This vintage is quite restrained on the nose and less s tropical than previous vintages. It unfurls in the glass to reveal profound and attractive notes of citrus, lime leaf, apricot and orange blossom. It shows a mouthwatering intensity, with subtle-but-juicy passionfruit notes melding with those of citrus, white stone fruit, makrut lime, pink peppercorn, hibiscus and pink grapefruit. Throughout, there is a freshening saline edge and a fresh-squeezed lemon acidity that carries a long, concentrated and complex finish.
We sat down with one of our winemakers, Kelly, to discuss the 2024 Sauvignon Blanc release and what makes it special.
Widow’s Vineyard, which is the vineyard first purchased by Veuve Clicquot. It has great diversity across the vineyard, with an old stream-bed running through the site that gives a range of different soils. There are also some older vines that give us great concentration and complexity. And it’s beautiful at sunset.
The attention we put into each tank. We treat every wine as if it will make the blend and try our best to make everything at the highest quality. If it’s not good enough to make the blend, it doesn’t go in.
The speed the grapes were ripening due to the warm dry summer was faster than any of us had seen before. It kept us on our feet when it came to picking decisions, but in a positive way. There was no disease or weather pressure, so we could pick what needed picking when it needed picking – it was just a bit of a guessing game sometimes as to which blocks would ripen next!
Somewhere remote, next to the ocean, preferably on a camping trip. A delicious pearl couscous salad with fresh pan-fried fish and a citrus dressing would be the perfect pairing!
